This document was drafted to describe what the site actually does technically, which is the part that is usually wrong in a template. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Before you take a single payment, have a solicitor or attorney in your jurisdiction review it, because the moment money changes hands your obligations around refunds, consumer rights, tax and data handling become real and enforceable.
By default, signed out, everything this site remembers about you stays in your own browser using
localStorage. You can read every story on this site without an account, without giving an email
address, and without anything about your reading leaving your device.
The keys written to your browser are:
nn_profile_v1 the display name and mask you chose, the date you created the profile, and your
Phantom Operator archetype result if you took that assessment.nn_it_progress_v1 which locks you have opened in the IT campaigns, and how many times you died.nn_tale_<story> and nn_tale_ends_<story> your current position in a story
and which endings you have discovered.cz_save, cz_ends, cz_legacy your Court Zero progress and the Season One
record that a future Season Two would read back.nn_telemetry_v1 a rolling log of the last 600 interactions, capped, used for testing.nn_uat_v1 any feedback you submitted through the chapter feedback panel.nn_audio_pref_v1 whether you muted the sound.nn_ses_v1 a random id for the current tab, described in section 2.nn_auth_v1 and nn_sync_v1 present only if you sign in, described below.ct_sp_v1, ct_deaths_v1, ct_speed_v1 and related keys used by the
SYSTEM_HAUNT terminal.Signed out, clearing your browser data or switching device will lose your progress and there is no way to recover it. Signing in exists precisely to solve that, and is optional.
Signing in is optional and unlocks nothing. Every story is fully readable without it. Its only purpose is to carry your progress between devices.
Sign-in uses a one-time link sent to your email address. There is no password, so there is nothing to reset and nothing for anyone to steal from us. If you sign in, the following is held on a database server (Supabase, hosted in the United States) rather than only in your browser:
That is the whole of it. Not what you clicked, not how long you read, not anything about your device, and it is linked to nothing else. The sign-in email is delivered by Resend, which handles the message and does not receive your reading data.
The site counts what pages are opened, which stories are started and finished, and which endings people reach. This is how a piece of writing finds out whether anyone got to the end of it.
It is measured by the site itself and sent to the same database described above. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no social tracker, and no third party of any kind receives this. It is not sold, shared or used for advertising, because nothing on this site is advertised.
No cookies are used and none are set. A random identifier is generated for the current browser tab and
stored in sessionStorage, which the browser erases when the tab closes. It is not linked to you, it
does not persist between visits, and it cannot be used to recognise you later. If a referring site sent you here,
only its bare domain name is recorded, never the full address.
No IP addresses are recorded by the site. Your web host and the database provider will keep ordinary server logs, as every host does; those are governed by their own policies.
If you enter an email address to be told when new stories are published, that address is stored for that single purpose. It is never sold, never shared, and never used for anything else. Every message includes a way to leave, and asking to be removed is enough on its own.
No password. No payment details. No name unless you type one in. No advertising identifiers, no fingerprinting, no cross-site tracking, no data brokers, no profiling, and no sale of anything to anybody. Nothing on this site is behind a payment and there is no advertising on it.
This site contains horror. Several stories deal directly with racial violence in the United States, including sundown towns, predatory housing contracts, medical experimentation carried out without consent, and the 1921 Tulsa massacre. These are grounded in documented history and are written to be disturbing, because the record is disturbing. Individual stories carry their own content notes before you begin.
The Psychological wing depicts coercive control and dissociation. The Phantom Operator wing discusses adult social and romantic dynamics, including stalking and harassment, and is written to teach recognition and refusal.
This material is intended for adults. It is not suitable for children.
Every character is invented. Where a story uses a real place or a real documented event, the people moving through it are fictional. Nothing here is a claim about any actual living or dead individual.
The IT wing teaches security terminology inside a story. It is not a substitute for a certification course, and passing a campaign is not a qualification. The Psychological and Inner Power wings are not therapy, diagnosis, or medical guidance. The Phantom Operator wing is not counselling. If you need professional help, get it from a professional.
The stories, characters, code and design on this site are the property of the site owner. You may read and share links freely. You may not republish the text, resell it, or use it to train a model without written permission.
The site is provided as is. It runs entirely in your browser and may behave differently across browsers and devices. Progress can be lost as described in section 1.
If you have never signed in and never joined the mailing list, there is nothing held about you anywhere except in your own browser, and you can see, export or destroy all of it yourself:
If you did sign in or join the mailing list, there is a copy on the server, and you have the following rights over it regardless of where you live. You do not need to give a reason and you will not be asked for one:
Ask using the contact address below and it will be done. Signing out on its own only clears the copy in your browser; it does not delete the server copy, so say so explicitly if that is what you want.
Visit counts described in section 3 are not linked to any person and cannot be traced back to an individual, so there is no way to isolate or remove one visitor's entries. That is a consequence of deliberately not identifying anyone, and it is the trade being made.
Questions about this document, or about anything on the site, go to the address published on the site's contact channel. If this document is ever updated the date at the top changes.
